We have an excellent opportunity for a Manager, Scientific Meetings in our National Center office in Dallas, TX.
The Manager, Scientific Meetings will be responsible for managing all of the programming aspects of the specialty conferences assigned to them. The end results of the duties of this position are the production of specialty conferences for our volunteers and attendees in order to educate and engage them in discussion, encourage research and studies, and disseminate the results of recent scientific research and cutting-edge technology, all in order to help meet the AHA's goal of building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular disease and stroke.
Major Responsibilities Include:
1. Manage revenue and budget for established portfolio while identifying potential cost savings and revenue gains.
2. Management of project timelines, deadline compliance and effective communication and dissemination of both.
3. Establishing trusted communcation with volunteers and anticpate needs and expectations.
4. Working with OSO, internal departments and affiliates to meet department goals and establish OSO as a leader in AHA.
5. Manage invited program and abstract program for accredited scientific programs in collaboration with volunteer program committees.
6. Manage registration process for assigned conferences and meetings. Work with vendor to determine procedures for effective management of advance and on-site registration processes.
7. Manage on-site registration process to include orientation, training and supervision of locally hired staff, and final accountability for monies collected on-site.
1. Bachelor's degree in business administration, program management, meeting management, or a related field.
2. At least three years experience managing the programming for a conference
3. At least three years experience planning and managing budgets, bringing in a project at or under budget
4. Previous experience working with volunteers in a not-for-profit environment preferred
5. Ability to work independently and make appropriate, effective decisions related to project management responsibilities
6. Possesses strong consensus-building skills
7. Experience with PC office automation tools, including the advanced features of MS Office Professional Suite
8. Ability to travel up to 15% of the time.
