Position Overview

Position Summary:
 
Eastern New Mexico University, an NCAA Division II institution and a member of the Lone Star Conference, is seeking applicants for two (2) full-time, 12-month positions for the 2024-2025 academic year. Possible sport assignments include volleyball, men’s soccer, men’s/women’s basketball cross country/track and field and baseball. It is anticipated that each staff member will have 2-3 primary sport assignments. Assignments will be determined by the applicant’s preference, experience and judgment of the Head Athletic Trainer. This position will report directly to the Head Athletic Trainer and work within the Eastern New Mexico Sports Medicine team. New graduates are encouraged to apply.

Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with and assist the team physician(s) in providing sports medicine coverage for all sports teams
  • Provide/plan for any emergency health care needs of student athletes
  • Provide treatment, rehabilitation and preventative plans for student athletes
  • Maintain appropriate medical records for student athletes’ health care, including but not limited to physical examinations, insurance information and injury evaluation reports
  • Communicate with all members of the sports medicine department, as well as coaches, strength and conditioning coaches and athletic director
  • Schedule physician appointments as needed throughout the school year
  • May teach 1-3 courses in Health and Physical Education (AT courses) if interested
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Job Requirements
  • BOC certified in Athletic Training (must provide certification number in required documents)
  • Eligibility to sit for the exam yielding a passing result prior to starting
  • A Bachelor of Science or Arts degree in Athletic training. Master’s degree strongly preferred
  • Eligibility for New Mexico state license
  • CPR/ AED Certification
  • Intercollegiate athletic training experience and teaching experience (preferred)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work as a member of a sports medicine team

Working Conditions

Physical Demand and Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed on a 12-month contract
  • Work is performed during normal business hours but will include evening and weekend hours and requires frequent travel with collegiate teams
  • Work is performed both inside a non-smoking facility and outdoors; involves extremes of cold and hot plus temperatures changes, wet and humid conditions
  • May include exposure to bloodborne pathogens
  • Work requires a mixture of prolonged sitting, standing constantly (all day), walking and/or moving frequently
  • Work may also require the ability to use both upper and lower extremities for manipulation of machines, tools, etc. for patients as needed; may require exertion of up to 50 pounds

Insurance for Eastern New Mexico University is offered through the New Mexico Public Schools Insurance Authority. High coverage and low coverage options are offered for medical and dental insurance so employees can choose the plan that’s right for them.

Retirement

Eastern New Mexico University participates with the New Mexico Educational Retirement Board (NMERB), Social Security, and Medicare.

The University also offers supplemental retirement plans. 403b plans are available through TIAA/CREF, AIG VALIC, and MetLife. 475b plans are offered through TIAA/CREF.


Paid Time Off

Full time exempt employees accrue 14.66 hours of annual leave and 14 hours of medical leave per month. Employees must work for the University for three months before they are eligible to use annual leave. Leave accruals will be pro-rated for part time employees. Temporary employees do not accrue leave.



Employee Educational Assistance Plan
Eastern New Mexico University offers a tuition waiver for regular employees and retirees. This program waives the tuition for one course (up to four credit hours) per semester. Employees' spouses may be eligible to use the tuition waiver during any semester that it is not being used by the employee.
