Position Overview

Purpose and Scope  
The Growth and Development Ambassador is responsible for client support and services according to the contract with the Eastern Workforce Development Board.

Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities:
Typical duties will include, but are not limited to:  

  • Assist Career Coaches with follow ups
  • Responsible for administering the Workforce Investment and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Adult and Dislocated Worker program
  • Identifying client barriers to successful employment
  • Work collaboratively with career coaches to assist clients to access various services
  • Provide core, intensive training services as needed to assist clients in becoming self-sufficient
  • Identify resources available in the community to assist participants
  • Provide case management to a small case load (20-30)
  • Serve as an advocate for participants as needed
  • Cross-train in other federal programs for which participants may qualify.
  • Work in collaboration with agencies to achieve the goals stated on the client EDP
  • Track client progress and modify as necessary, review progress of EDP a minimum of every six months, and update as necessary
  • Assist Career Coaches coordinate activities with other One Stop staff members who provide related services
  • Assist Career coaches visit employers ½ day per week or more outside of the office
  • Assist Career Coaches Conduct vocational, occupational and employment counseling with groups and individuals
  • Assist Career Coaches schedule and conduct workshops including Work Readiness and various re-employment services workshops (e.g. resume and cover letter writing, interviewing skills, coping with job loss/crisis management, job search techniques, keeping your job, etc.)
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, Experience
Required:
  • High School Diploma
  • Two years of experience in related field
  • Must be well-informed about the rules and regulations pertaining to the WIOA program
  • Must possess a valid New Mexico driver’s license as travel is required
Preferred:
  • Three years or more experience in a human services or educational field
  • Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, and organization skills
  • Excellent computer and office skills
  • Ability to establish good professional relationships with employers, clients and diverse populations
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced environment

Complexity/Effort:
Ability to learn and apply campus policies and procedures; ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with the College community and campus visitors; ability to gather and analyze data necessary for informed decisions involving the community, students and employees.   Skills in interpersonal communications are needed.  Must have the ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position; to follow oral and written directions; to understand and follow safety procedures; to operate and use standard office equipment. Must be of good moral character with conduct consistent with the university and state code of conduct.

Working Conditions

Physical Demand and Working Conditions:
Work is sedentary in nature that at times requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Work is performed during normal work hours, with some evenings and weekends to meet deadlines.

Insurance

Retirement

Paid Time Off

During the first year of service, full time non-exempt (hourly) employees accrue 7  hours of annual leave and 7 hours of medical leave per month. During the second year of service, full time non-exempt employees accrue 10 hours of annual leave and 10 hours of medical leave per month. During the third and subsequent years of service, full time non-exempt employees accrue 14.66 hours of annual leave and 14 hours of medical leave per month.

Employees must work for the University for three months before they are eligible to use annual leave. Leave accruals will be pro-rated for part time employees. Temporary employees do not accrue leave.


Employee Educational Assistance Plan
Eastern New Mexico University offers a tuition waiver for regular employees and retirees. This program waives the tuition for one course (up to four credit hours) per semester. Employees' spouses may be eligible to use the tuition waiver during any semester that it is not being used by the employee.
