See the Benefits home page for more information. Position SummaryUNM Honors College anticipates hiring Temporary Part-Time Adjunct Faculty to propose and teach undergraduate courses in fall 2023. While open to any number of courses, we are particularly interested in offering more of the following courses:

UHON 301: Seminar, with a focus on literature and cultural studies.
HNRS 1120: Honors Legacy Seminar (UNM Gen Ed, Humanities)
HNRS 2112: Rhetoric and Discourse (UNM Gen Ed, Writing & Speaking)

Although we need to fill specific subject area needs, all Honors courses have an interdisciplinary aspect, and we expect all courses to connect two or more disciplines, for undergraduates of any major, without prerequisites. Further, teaching in Honors involves developing dynamic interactive classroom activities, including perhaps small group and whole class discussions since we do little to no lecturing in our seminar style courses.

Further requirements include: Participation, where relevant for UNM Program Assessment and NMHED General Education Assessment, in the assessment of student learning outcomes for courses taught. Maintaining records of student participation and achievement consistent with course objectives and college policies. Adjunct Faculty are required to hold two office hours in Honors per course per week. Office space will be provided.

Positions are contingent upon need each semester as determined by student enrollment levels, current course offering matrix, and demand driven by graduation requirements. Positions may be filled or eliminated each semester up to the deadline for students to drop or add courses. Candidates may be asked to teach more than one section of a course and may apply to teach multiple courses, either multiple sections of the same course or separate courses based on their qualifications. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Minimum qualifications to teach courses as described above are determined by the Higher Learning Commission's accreditation requirements for faculty and must be met by one of these ways:

  • Master's Degree or higher in the discipline or subfield for which you are applying.
    OR
  • A master's degree or higher in a discipline related to but other than that for which you are applying, and successful completion of at least 18 graduate credit hours in an accredited program in the discipline or subfield for which you are applying.
    OR
  • Teaching experience in a post-secondary institution.
  • Significant life experience directly relevant to the area being taught at a level sufficient for post-secondary instruction.
    AND
  • A complete application.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A terminal degree and/or significant teaching/life experience in a field relevant to the course(s) proposed from an accredited institution.
  • Successful teaching experience in a post-secondary institution, as evidenced by materials such as completed course evaluations which may be added as supplemental materials in your application.
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
  • Expressed understanding of and commitment to the pedagogical principles of the UNM Honors College.
  • Previously reviewed and taught courses in the UNM Honors College.
