The UNM College of Pharmacy is looking for a highly motivated Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS) Analyst to participate in our bioanalytical core laboratory. The Core provides a top-notch research infrastructure that enables scientific excellence, novel methodology development and outstanding innovations for researchers on campus and the scientific community.
This is an exciting opportunity for an analytical and scientific oriented LC-MS specialist to join our growing team. The LC-MS Analyst will work closely with the Science Research Manager and the Core Director to execute MS analysis. This position will be responsible for operation and routine maintenance of state-of-the-art LC-MS instruments. The primary job functions will be analyzing biological and environmental samples for proteins, metabolites, and/or small organic molecules. The individual will have opportunities to take initiatives and develop novel approaches to analytical problem solving. Recent graduates who are capable and self-driven with substantial research involving hands-on LC-MS experience are encouraged to apply. The title and position can be adjusted for highly experienced candidate who meets preferred qualifications.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Operation of LC-MS spectrometer
  • Maintain and troubleshoot LC-MS instrumentation as needed
  • Implement appropriate LC-MS methods, protocols and procedures
  • Develop LC-MS/MS methods and workflow on proteins, metabolites and/or small molecules
  • Analyze and process data and communicate significance of results to management and users
  • Maintain an accurate record system for quality control and quality assurance using both physical copies and electronic
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Conditions of Employment
  • Successful candidate must submit to a post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check. Additional health screenings may be required, dependent on the nature of the research conducted, as determined by Employee Occupational Health Services.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS or PhD in analytical chemistry or closely related fields.
  • Hands on LC-MS experience in one or more of the following analyses: targeted quantitation by triple quad, metabolomics, proteomics, and quantitation of protein using PRM or MRM.
  • Hands-on experience in Sciex LC-MS triple quadrupole or Thermo Orbitrap.
  • Experience in routine use of MS data analysis software such as Sciex Analyst, Xcalibar, Proteome Discoverer, Skyline, Scaffold, TraceFinder, Agilent Masshunter or Chemstation.
  • Hands-on experience in sample preparation methods such as SDS-PAGE, protein digestion, solid phase extraction, tissue homogenizing, etc.
  • LC-MS method development experience.
  • Excellent scientific writing and communication skills.
  • Experience working collaboratively with many individuals to coordinate, organize and implement planned activities.
  • Experience in establishing standard operational procedures and maintaining appropriate experimental records.
  • Responsive problem solver and action oriented.
