The Center for Global Health, within the
Department of Internal Medicine, is seeking a Full-Time
Research Scientist 3 to support work associated with the synthesis, quality
control, and further development of our novel essential oil-based insecticide.
The position of the Research Scientist 3 entails the
following responsibilities: (1) Investigating
and evaluating other essential oils to serve as effective mosquito larvicides
utilizing our encapsulation technology, (2)
Employing biomaterials to devise innovative methods to enable the sustained
release of our current product, and (3) Developing new approaches to enable
the application of our essential oil-based technology in the control of other
vectors of disease and agricultural pests. The ideal candidate for the role
should possess expertise in high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC),
fluorescent microscopy, or other quantitative and qualitative methods for
assessing encapsulation efficiencies. While prior experience with mosquitoes is
preferred, proficiency with other vectors will also be taken into
consideration. This position calls for a self-driven Research Scientist
capable of working independently. Collaboration is a key aspect, involving
interactions with national and international partners, team members, and
students. As such, effective communication skills are essential. Additionally,
the Research Scientist will be responsible for producing quarterly reports
and collaborating with the Principal Investigator on manuscript and grant
applications as needed. Occasional administrative support may also be
requested to ensure the study's successful execution.

Conditions of Employment |
- Successful candidate must submit to a post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check. Additional health screenings may be required, dependent on the nature of the research conducted, as determined by Employee Occupational Health Services.

Minimum Qualifications |
Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis. |
Preferred Qualifications |
- Experience with biomaterials, and utilization of
biomaterials for microencapsulation of various compounds for use as larvicide
or other insect repellent/deterrent.
- Experience with methodologies such as HPLC and
fluorescent microscopy for quantitative and qualitative assessment of
encapsulation efficiency.
- Experience with arthrophds, specifically mosquitoes.
Willingness to work with other insects.
- Ability to conceptualize, develop, and scale up microencapsulation
synthesis.
- Self-motivated, organized and can multi-task
efficiently. Comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
- Competent with Microsoft package (Word, Excel,
PowerPoint), knowledge of statistical and graphing software packages such as
Prism. Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Assist with grant applications as needed
- Train and supervise students as needed.
