The Center for Development and Disability (CDD), established in 1990, is New Mexico's University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research and Service. These centers, authorized by the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act, build the capacities of states and communities to respond to the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.
The UNM CDD FOCUS Program is an integrated early childhood and family medical home program serving families raising infants, toddlers and preschool age children, many of whom struggle with substance use and complex trauma. The program provides comprehensive medical care, including primary care to caregivers and children, medically-assisted treatment, and behavioral health. Early childhood services are also offered, including Early Intervention and parenting interventions.
The Program Specialist position supports the FOCUS Medical Clinic in developing and implementing processes and activities that ensure quality medical and behavioral health care in the medical clinic. This includes partnering with FOCUS leadership to develop tracking process to support grant initiatives, program evaluation, and funding applications. The position will also work with leadership to develop and implement billing procedures within the FOCUS Medical Clinic. To support the implementation of grant-funded initiatives in the clinic, the position will also oversee the implementation of projects to enhance engagement of families with the medical clinic, including piloting a transportation project.
Additionally, in collaboration with other administrative positions in the clinic, the Program Specialist supports patient support activities, such as scheduling of patients in the clinic, reviewing provider and clinic schedules, and tracking of weekly patient scheduling to support patient engagement and collaboration with the early childhood component of the FOCUS Program. The position will also oversee the coordination with other medical clinics, such as the UNM Milagro Clinic and the UNM NICU/ICN, that refer to the program to ensure appropriate transitioning of care.
