The Center for Development and Disability (CDD), established in 1990, is New Mexico's University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research and Service. These centers, authorized by the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act, build the capacities of states and communities to respond to the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.

Join our team! Under the CDD's Family and Community Partnerships Division, the Partners for Employment (PFE) program is looking to hire an Education Specialist to work online and in communities throughout New Mexico. This position coordinates and facilitates trainings, hosts regional meetings, and provides technical assistance in support of PFE's mission to advance supported employment best practices for persons with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD).

The Education Specialist will need to possess strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in diverse communities. Experience leading and facilitating community teams and providing training and technical assistance to individuals with diverse levels of technical skill is essential to this position.

The individual who is hired for this position will need to have the ability to manage multiple projects, shifting priorities, and meet monthly reporting deadlines. Project management, organization, and coordination skills are strongly desired. Experience working with individuals with I/DD in a supported employment or community setting is preferred. Holding a Certified Employment Supports Professional (CESP) through the Association of People Supporting Employment First (APSE) credential and/or being Association of Certified Rehabilitation Educators (ACRE) certified is preferred.

This position requires regular statewide travel.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience

  • working with individuals with I/DD in a supported employment or community setting;
  • leading and facilitating community teams to develop and implement activities.

Holding a Certified Employment Supports Professional (CESP) through the Association of People Supporting Employment First (APSE) credential and/or being Association of Certified Rehabilitation Educators (ACRE) certified.

Knowledge of

  • supported employment and school-to-work best practices for individuals with I/DD;
  • resources available to youth and adults with I/DD in New Mexico and nationally;
  • online instructional methods to include the use of teleconferencing and coordinating training opportunities for large groups or other similar events.

Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Project management, organization, and coordination skills are strongly desired.
