Position Summary

The Youth Worker/ASP Aide position is a Part-Time position in support of the Corps ministry and its After-School Program. The Youth Worker/ASP Aide is directly responsible to the Corps Officer(s). Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assisting the Corps Officer in children/youth related activities, assisting with the After School Program's daily activities, such as pick up at local schools, provide transportation to and from field trips, as well as basic daily set-up and clean-up of program activities. The Youth Worker is responsible for the Corps youth ministry and the volunteers which assist, including the coordination and oversight of Salvation Army Troops, YPL (teen ministry), Jr. Soldiers, and Sunday youth ministry. Additionally, the Youth Worker will aim to bridge the After-School Program to the Corps ministry provided by The Salvation Army.

Essential Functions

  • Plan and schedule Sunday School, Jr. Church, and any other youth-related Sunday Ministry.
  • Plan and supervise weekly ministries, such as Troops programming.
  • Plan Jr. Solders in order to develop future leaders in The Salvation Army.
  • Coordinate, recruit, and support volunteers in their efforts to assist in these ministries.
  • Provide safe transportation for Sunday ministry/worship and weekly youth ministries.
  • Support Corps Officers in sending children and teens to Summer Camp at Camp Crags.
  • Complete all required reports related to Corps youth ministry and provide stats to Corps Officers.
  • Maintain clean, presentable classrooms and keep materials organized.
  • Assist ASP Director and Lead Teachers in the implementation of After School and Day Camp Program activities.
  • Develop ministries which bridge the After School Program to the church.
  • Assist in daily snack service as directed.
  • Monitor children and ensure safe conditions at all times.
  • Provide safe transport for children to and from field trips and complete driving logs.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and ability to respond to vehicle & passenger emergencies.
  • Assist with clean-up at the end of the day and set-up for the next day's activities.
  • Responsible for adhering to all policies, procedures and reporting for 'Protect the Mission.'
  • Other duties as assigned by the Corps Officer(s).

Working Conditions

Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead. Ability to operate computer, fax and telephone. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred in related field or at least 2 years' experience working with children.
  • Salvation Army Soldier preferred or adherence to Salvation Army doctrine.
  • Basic computer knowledge and typing skills, which include Office (Word, Publisher, Excel and Powerpoint)
  • Excellent communication skills, including both oral and written.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish is beneficial, but not required.
  • Must have and maintain a valid CA Class "B" DL.
  • DOJ background clearance
  • PTM training as required by The Salvation Army.
  • Must successfully complete The Salvation Army's driver safety program before and will be required to recertify annual as required.

  • Mature composure with teenagers.
  • Ability to participate in active youth programs, including sports.
  • Ability to produce promotional material for youth programs.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of vehicle safety compliance.
  • Ability to maintain a strict schedule.

Experience
2 years: Minimum Experience Working With Children. (preferred)
