An Off-Campus Work-Study Position - MUST have a Work-Study Award
SUMMARY:
This is a part-time work
study position in which you will gain experience working at a nonprofit legal
organization. One of NMILC's services is educating the community, including
individuals, partner organizations and others, about economic opportunities. In
this position, you will receive guidance and mentorship to research and write
memoranda about immigrant entrepreneurship and professional licensing
opportunities. You will provide administrative support to NMILC staff and
volunteers at economic justice workshops and provide support to our staff in
managing administrative tasks around the office, including calling clients,
organizing client files, and inputting data into our online case management
database.
WHO WE ARE:
New Mexico Immigrant Law
Center (NMILC) is a social justice organization that provides collaborative
legal services, advocacy, and education opportunities for low-income immigrants
in the state. Since its founding in 2010, NMILC has provided direct legal
representation to more than 10,000 immigrants. NMILC's model focuses on
establishing relationships with local, state and national organizations and
governmental institutions to expand access to legal services to historically
marginalized immigrant communities
RESPONSIBILITIES:
*Research and write memoranda
*Accurately file both digital and paper client case files
*Assist with workshops as needed
*Input client data into our online case management database
Assist with administrative projects as they
arise
SCHEDULE:
Options run from Mondays -
Fridays, 9am-1pm and 1pm-5pm.
Minimum of 8 hours per
week in-person at our downtown office, preferably in blocks of 4 hours per
day. If you are not available for the minimum amount of time you may be
considered, but priority is given to those who can commit to the above
schedule.
Enrolled in a degree seeking program at UNM, Enrolled at least half-time (6 hours) at UNM for fall and spring semesters (Audit hours do not count), and if Work Study, you must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Eligible
for work study at UNM
Preference for bilingual,
English/Spanish
High
school diploma
Excellent communication
skills; ability to organize information in a clear and concise manner
Multi-cultural experience;
compassion and patience with a wide variety of individuals
Basic computer competency
in MS Office and Windows
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
At
least one year of undergraduate college or university education completed
Knowledge
of local community resources and organizations is a plus
Knowledge
of and enjoyment for research and writing
