Position Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Shipping and Receiving clerk is accountable for providing shipping and receiving for the entire campus for a wide variety of commodities. This position requires a working knowledge of purchasing procedures and practices. This employee has some contact with vendors and supplies as well as the general public and university employees. This position reports to the Purchasing Agent.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Receives and coordinates distribution of materials purchased by the University
  • Returns items for department returns to the vendor for refunds (dept repackages)
  • Provides back up to the book store and food services relating to materials
  • Receives, sorts, and distributes inter-departments mail and U.S. mail
  • Registers, insures, weighs, and computes mailing costs of letters and parcels
  • Prepares monthly journal entries charging the various departments for their cost of mail
  • Provides back up for physical plant relating to receiving shipments - truck loads
  • Provides back up for the inventory supervisor position
  • Daily to once a week bank runs and post office runs
  • Paper purchase and distribution for campus
  • Mailroom
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Three months of experience or training
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Oral and written communication and interpersonal skills required

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands, move, reach, walk, and stand. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Work is performed during normal work hours, with some evenings and weekends to meet deadlines.
