Job Description

UNM Medical Group, Inc. is hiring a Occupational Therapist to join our team at Center for Development and Disability. This opportunity will be full-time located in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Minimum $66,123 - Midpoint $84,302*

*Salary is determined based on years of total relevant experience.

*Salary is based on 1.0 FTE (full time equivalent) or 40 hours per week. Less than 40 hours/week will be prorated and adjusted to the appropriate FTE.

Minimum Job Requirements of an Occupational Therapist:

Bachelor's degree: and 6 months directly related experience. State of New Mexico Occupational Therapy Board License OR licensure pending, as documented by temporary license. Completed degree from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis. Verification of education and licensure (if applicable) will be required if selected for hire.

This position will be located at the Center for Development and Disability (CDD). Established in 1990, CDD is New Mexico's University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research and Service. These centers, authorized by the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act, build the capacities of states and communities to respond to the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.

The FOCUS Early Intervention program is a New Mexico Family Infant Toddler Program under IDEA Part C which provides comprehensive developmental and parenting support services for families of children under the age of three who have or are at risk for developmental delays or disability. In addition to the developmental supports and parenting interventions provided by the early intervention team, the program partners with a family medical home to provide primary medical care for parents and children, psychiatric consultation, and medically assisted substance use treatment. Many of the families served by the program have been affected by substance use, adversity, and/ or complex trauma.

Services are provided using a trauma-informed, relationship-based approach that focuses on strengthening the parent-child relationships and children's school readiness skills. Most services are provided in family homes or in community settings, which means the candidate will be required to travel to and from home visits. Many of the children served in the program have been hospitalized in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for a range of conditions, including prematurity, polysubstance exposure, and/ or Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome. The occupational therapist will provide developmental and direct sensory/motor therapeutic intervention services to children enrolled in the program. The occupational therapist will provide services within a multidisciplinary team in coordination with other providers.

This position requires the following skills and capacities:

  • Engaging with families who may be hard to engage due to their previous experiences within systems of care;
  • Solid knowledge and experience in child development and in working with children aged birth to three;
  • Knowledge and skill in assessing children birth to three years of age using standardized assessment instruments;
  • Collaborating with community partners;
  • Knowledge of state and federal reporting requirements;
  • Strong organizational skills that balance child, family, and program needs.

Providing

  • services to infants and toddlers aged birth to three years and their families with demonstrated knowledge of child development, particularly with children ages birth to three years;
  • developmental assessment of children birth to three years of age using standardized assessment instruments;
  • clinical collaboration for developmental service planning including goal planning, ongoing assessment and monitoring progress toward meeting goals;
  • therapy services within an IDEA Part C Early Intervention program or similar program serving young children and their families.

Certified as an Instructor of Infant Message.

Bilingual in English and Spanish, including medical terminology.

Summary

Works as an occupational therapist with experience in pediatrics as a member of an interdisciplinary team performing diagnostic and developmental evaluations and interventions for children. Participates in collaborative training, technical assistance and consultation with families, community agencies, and/or local education agencies throughout the state. Provides rehabilitative and developmental therapy and support services for children and their families.

Duties and Responsibilities of a Occupational Therapist:

  1. Conducts occupational evaluations including standardized and non-standardized assessment, sensory motor processing and abilities and other areas as appropriate.
  2. Documents evaluation by writing comprehensive reports and clinical notes.
  3. Interviews and shares information with families and community providers in a comprehensive and family-centered manner
  4. Provides developmental, rehabilitation and habilitation intervention.
  5. Develops home and community intervention programs addressing the needs identified in the evaluation.
  6. Consults with community providers regarding intervention programs and techniques.
  7. Works in an interdisciplinary manner with other team members.
  8. Supervises the occupational therapy evaluation and services provided by undergraduate or graduate students engaged in completion of clinical practicum requirements.
  9. Confers with undergraduate or graduate students to provide feedback, to support clinical work, and to develop clinical skills.
  10. Engages in training and technical assistance of community providers.
  11. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
