Position Overview

Position Summary
The Emerging Technologies Librarian is responsible for coordinating all activities and services of the library production services center and student computer lab. Working collaboratively, this individual plans for, implements, and assesses production services and technology equipment and support in the library student computer lab. The Emerging Technologies Librarian is a strong advocate for high quality customer service and the user technology experience.

Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities:
Working in a team-oriented environment, the Emerging Technologies Librarian will:

  • Plan and direct all activities of the production services center, student computer lab, and library VR Lab including: staffing, scheduling, monitoring and upkeep of supplies and equipment and services to the campus and the general public.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate staff and student workers in production services and the student computer lab.
  • Act as a pathfinder for the Library in understanding and developing innovative technologies to achieve the organization's mission.
  • Partner with librarians, faculty and academic programs across all ENMU campuses to develop new and innovative instruction and resources for students.
  • In collaboration with the Systems Librarian and campus IT, participate in the ongoing assessment and enhancement of existing library technology as well as new information technology related services deployed.
  • Teach workshops for students, faculty, staff and the community on digital scholarship and contemporary research methods, such as digital exhibits, video production, data visualizations, text analysis, interactive maps, and born-digital books.
  • Provide expertise in demonstrating how new hardware and software systems can be applied for use in academic research to augment subject matter inquiry.
  • Delegate tasks and project assignments to production services staff and student workers and monitor the resolution of all support issues in the student computer lab.
  • Seek out and build relationships with programs and departments across campus, as well as businesses in the local and surrounding communities to promote services.
  • Remain informed about emerging technologies/industry trends and apply them into operations and activities.
  • Assist with specialized reports and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Serve as a collection development liaison for assigned disciplines and collaborate with faculty to develop these areas of the print and digital collections.
  • Provide reference services and research/information literacy instruction as needed.
  • Contribute to Golden Library initiatives that further ENMU's commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements:
A master's degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution and a minimum of two years experience working in a library or learning resource center (in the most recent five years) directly related to the duties specified.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Experience hiring, training and supervising employees.
  • Proactive, quick learner, with a strong sense of curiosity and enthusiasm for learning new technologies.
  • Training or experience in information literacy instruction and/ or teaching experience.
  • Evidence of excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Evidence of problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office (Office 360) and familiarity with virtual/webex meeting technologies.
  • Ability to work independently in a highly collaborative environment.
  • Experience with 2D or 3D digitization technology.
  • Experience using or teaching emerging technologies, such as: Geographic Information Systems, Electronics, Extended Reality technology (Virtual Reality/Augmented Reality), Drone technology, 3D modeling/printing, Digital Photography or Digital Video Production.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Experience working with data sets and utilizing data visualization tools.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
  • Ability to interpret and evaluate client informational needs and determine appropriate solutions.
  • Ability to adapt to unforeseen changes, not sacrificing the quality of service students receive.
  • Demonstrated initiative and proven ability to learn new technologies and adapt to changes in the profession.
  • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Preferred: Experience or coursework in programming or scripting, using languages such as: Javascript, Python, HTML, CSS. Knowledge of Institutional Repositories.
Working Conditions

Physical Demand and Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed during normal work hours with some evening and weekend hours.
  • Work is sedentary in nature that at times requires exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
